THE OFFICIAL COUNT. Auckland, June 4. The official count in the Hauraki byelection has now been completed, the number of votes polled by the various candidates being as follows:— MASSEY, W \V. (Reform) 4023 PETRIE, C. R. (Labour) .. 2599 ALLAN, E. (United) .. .. 997 ROSS A. (Country) .. .. 513 Informal 28 Allan and Ross lose their deposits, neither having polled a quarter of the votes polled by the successful candidate. The absent votes were distributed as follows :— Massey . 98 Petrie 64 Allan .. 21 Ross .... .. .. .. 2 The total votes cast were 8161, against 9172 in 1928. The figures for the general election in 1928 were, as follows:—A. W. Hall (Reform), 3826; E. Allan (United), 2935; C. R. Petrie (Labour), 2411.
