In the mid-season report of the. Otago Provincial Fruitgrowers’. Council mention is made of pads used in the packing of" fruit for export, and it is stated that there is every probability that the use of these pads will be made compulsory next season. Experiments are being made with a pad of raupo fibre enclosed in paper covering, and if this is satisfactory and the price favourable, there is the possibility of establishing an industry which would absorb a fair amount of labour, as it would necessitate the making of 2,500,000 pads to cover New Zealand requirements. - “ It’s all verj- well to sit down and ’ spin hopes while the spiders are spinning cobwebs over the cash register,” said Mr .
