In connection with an advertisement by an enterprising business man in Greymouth offering a ticket in an art union for anyone spending 20s, a budding Waiuta financier saw a good chance of getting £2OOO for nothing, so he sent an order for 20s worth of nenny stamps. No reply has so far been received. A Southland Acclimatisation Society party which visited the upper reaches of the Oreti River over last week-end tagged about 200 fish. A request has been made that during the coming season all anglers should closely examine the tails of the fish caught, and if a tag is found to weigh and measure the fish, take the scales from the right shoulder, put in an envelope, together with the particulars asked for, and despatch the envelope to Mr Jaquiery. “ Unless that work is done by the anglers the success of the experiment will be largely nullified,” said Mr Jaquiery. “ and it is hoped that anglers will, therefore, in their own interests make a point of returning the tags with the information asked for.”
