Tyndall said in a lecture at Christchurch, he was astonished to find at an agricultural show an exhibit of huge rabbits, about three feet in length, with heads like mastiffs, and long, shaggy hair, which were labelled “ New Zealand Whites and Reds.” When he found the owner and expressed a doubt as to the correctness of. their description, the Mexican indignantly denied that a mistake had been made.
Eighteen of the boys from the Eskdale district, Napier, who had been at Motuihi Island under the care of the Community Sunshine Association since the Hawke’s Bay earthquake, returned south last week. The party consisted of the bigger boys, who showed the benefit of their stay there. There are still about 80 children at the camp, and they will not leave until October.
