That many women entered into rapid marriages and careless motherhood was a statement by Archbishop Julius at the inaugural meeting of the Sunlight League in Christchurch. He said that a tabby cat knew more about bringing up kittens than some mothers knew about rearing their children. Training was necessary. A different view was expressed later in the meeting by Dr Elesneth Fitzgerald, who declared that New Zealand mothers as a rule were careful in bringing up • children. <
