C. E. MALFROY’S SUCCESS FELIXSTOWE TOURNAMENT. (From Ouk Own Correspondent.) „ LONDON, April 17. Iwo New Zealanders—C. E. Malfroy and J. E. Giesen—took part in the Felixstowe tournament played from April 7 to April 11 Malfroy won the Singles from Major C. F. Scroope. On the opening day the Hon. Peter «T^ n c, was to tlle forn ’ wi,en beat l. H Sidney, the Suffolk county player, and then the experienced veteran, C O luckey. by 6-1 5-7, 6-1, in the Men’s Singles. C. E. Malfroy and J. E. Giesen, and Major C. F. Scroope, the Irish Davis £ R? v ,^ r » W€r e among others successful. Ma Jroy was successful against R. P' and Giese « defeated C. M. Rudland (7 —9. 7 —5, 75) On April 8 Malfroy reached the last eight in the Men's Singles, when he beat I’- ' . Fontes (8 —6, 6—3) in the third round, but his fellow New Zealander Giesen, was beaten by D. G. Freshwater J- 0 —1). the junior champion, in straight sets The Hon. Peter Aitken beat H V. Edwards by 6—4, 7—5. and Major Scroope was too strong all round for M. D Rodgerson. Next day Major Scroope, the Hon. Petcr Aitken, C. R. D. luckey, and C. E. Malfroy reached the semi-final round of the Men’s Singles at the I'ehxstowe tournament. Scroope had an easy task against G. Thompson in the fourth round, and Tuckev beat V. Bu ™ (6—2, 6—4). The other two matches were close Aitken only beat the Rev W. H. M. Aitken by 3—6, 7—5 7 after the loser had led 3—love in Hie final set, and Malfroy defeated D. G. Freshwater by 7—5, 2—6, 6—l Then
Malfroy defeated C. R. D. Tuckey (6 —3, 7—5) and Major Scroope put out the Hon. Peter Aitken by 6—l, 6—2 In the final round, on April 11, Malfroy beat Major Scroope (6—4, 6—3), and won the oingles This week the Melbury tournament is in progress at Kensington, and Maifrov is taking part. In the first round of the Men s Singles he opposed A. R. Dixon, and defeated him easily (6 —1, 6- 0). In the second round Malfroy had a wslk?X er ’ E - W- Sutton being scratched. S. n. Harries was his opponent in the third round. The match was an easy one tor the New Zealand player, who won by 6—2, 6—o. Again in the fourth round yesterday Malfroy’s good volleying was responsible for big victory over A Poulalion by 6—3, 6—l.
