ART UNIONS
PAUSE IN ISSUE OF PERAIITS. WELLINGTON, Alay 21. Applications for the conduct of art unions continue to be received in large numbers by the Government, and about 90 sports bodies and charitable organisations are at present waiting for licenses to sell tickets. The position at present is that licenses to conduct alluvial gold art unions have been approved by Cabinet extending to October 17 of this year. The question of granting further licenses will then be considered again by Cabinet. Several organisations, mostly of a philanthropic nature, have applied to the Government for permission to conduct art unions for the purpose of raising funds, and in each instance the Alinister of Internal Affairs (Air P. A. de la Perrelle) replied that Cabinet will consider the requests. It is stated that many organisations are desirous of raising money for deserving causes by this means, but there appears to be no hope of further applications being granted in the meantime.
