“ It is noteworthy at this time that the use of electricity by the farming community should have remained almost constant. This may be regarded as an indication that electrical services are more than competitive, and come within the category of economical necessities on the farm.” states a passage in the annual report of the chairman, Mr F. Purnell, made to a meeting of the Wanganui-Ransi-tikei Electric Power Board (reports the Chronicle). “ I have heard considerable talk about 'the cost of living coming down in England,” remarked Mr George Storey, the comedian, who returned to Auckland the other morning by the Port Fairy. “ But of one fact I am sure, that the cost of living for some men has fallen. Do you know that an advertisement appeared in the Daily Mail of one hotel, just out of London, which promised a glass of beer, a meal, .a packet of cigarettes—and * your change out of sixpence’? ”
