OAMARU MARKETS.
(Fbom Ovb Own Corbespoijdext.)
I OAMARU, September 13. i The particularly quiet state that has ruled in the North Otago markets during the past month still obtains, and millere continue to purchase- solely for actual immediate requirements. Consequently, business has been almost at a standstill, and only two or three lines have changed hands, the price being 4s 3d net, at sidings. Though it is stated here that a Timaru merchant made a big purchase at the close of last week, this ie not likely to have any effect on the market, as the demand was merely a passing one-, xind the circumstances which gave rise to it are not likely to bo repeated in the near future. Farmers who still hold grain (and there are not now many in that position), are still firm in their determination not to quit at a reduction from their original limit, and 4s 6d is still looked for in some instances. Oats are a decidedly dull commodity at present. No shipping is being done, and Southland hae underbid us, so that there is nothing but the local demand to fall back upon, and that has fallen to a minimum. There has leen some inquiry for fresh picked late Derwent potatoes, and some sales have been irade. Up-to-Dates are only taken when it is impossible to get Derwents, but at a much lower price. Quotations, net at. sidings, are: — Wheat: Best milling velvet and Tuscan, 4s 3d to 4s 3ad ; red chaff and solid straw, 4s 2d to 4s 2£d; milling seconds, 3s 6d to 3s 7d; whole fowl wheat, 3s 7d to 3s Bd. Oats: Gartone, Is 4d to Is sd; B Gartons, Is 3d to Is 4d; Duns, Is 5d to Is 6d; Danish, Is 3d to Is 4d. Barley: Best malting, 2s 3d to 2s 3£d. Feed, Is 8d to 2s.
