VISIT TO INVERCARGILL.
INVERCARGILL, September 9. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., delivered a public address at" Invercargill to-mght under the auspices of the Southland Trades and Labour Council. At the conclusion of the address the following rt&olution was carried by acclamation :—: — "That this meeting thanks Mr Hogg for his able and eloquent address, and expresses approbation of his consistent advocacy throughout his political career of those democratic principles -which hb has ever regarded as tending to the greatest wellbeing of the community, and applauds his rectnt courageous self-sacrifice in surrendering place and power rather than, violate his conscience by sinking those principles, and that thio meeting further endorsts the hope recently expressed that before long Mr Hogg will be as well supported in Parliament at he now is in tho country."
At the Ashburton skin sales on the 6tK a half bred skin realised 12s Id. The sheep from which the skin had been removea was recently purchased at the Ashburton . yards for 17s 6d. . American Congregationalism gained 10,462 members last year, making an increase of 89,321 for tho decade. The Sunday schools have gained 20,000 since 1900 last year's increase beinpr the largest for 15 yeure. Last year 719,195 church membcM gave £2,250,000 for beneficent purposes.
