DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY.

The ordinary meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery, held on the 7th, was attended by the R6v. W. MTJonald (Moderator), and Revs. D. Borrie, A. Cameron, A. Greig, A. M. Finlayson (clerk), R. R. M. Sutherland, D. Dutton, A. Don, I X M'lntyre, Professor Hewitson, E. C. Tennent, W. Scorgie, R. Fairmaid, Dr Nicholson, J. J. Cairney, J. Chisholm, A. W. Kinmont, J. Kilpatrick, J. Erwin, J. Aitken, W. T. Todd, D. K. Fisher, E. A. Axelsen, J. Lymburn, W. Spence, J. Niven, Messrs J. Mathieson, R. Leishman, F. Marshall, T. Anderson, J. NeiH, W S. Fitzgerald, J. Wright, A. Ross, and Captain M 'Call um. Apologies for non-attendance were read from the Rev. J. Christie and Mr Reid. The Rev. W. Spence, recently inducted to the charge of West Taieri, was introduced to the Presbytery, and welcomed as a member. The Rev. Mr Whyte (Hawke's Bay) was accorded a welcome, and associated with the Presbytery. An extension of leave of absence from one to two months was granted to Dr Nisbet. It was resolved, on the motion of the Rev. Mr Sutherland, that the matter of accepting the oiler of o- church site at Sawyers' Bay be referred to the congregation there. A request from Mr A. M. Allan that facilities be granted for his obtaining the necessary license was* then considered. — The Rev. Mr Borrie stated that the applicant had set his heert on proceeding to South America for mission work. He had in the first instance been recommended to Otago by the Auckland Presbytery; hence arose the delay concerning the license./— The Rev. Mr Scorgie eaid he thought it a pity that Mr Allan had decided on this step. With his earnestness ,and ability he would have done excellent' work in New Zealand. There, was a touch of originality about him. — The' Moderator said South American needed the best men. — Mr Scorgie : So does New Zealand. — It was decided to assist Mr Allan in obtaining the license without loss of time GENERAL ASSEMBLY. The following ministers were elected to the General Assembly : —Revs. E. C. Tennent, R. Fairmaid, J. Chisholm, J. Lymburn, J. Kilpatrick, J. Erwin, H. B. Gray, W. T. Todd, D. K. Fisher, D. Borrie, W. Hewitson, W. Scorgie, A. Cameron, J. Aitken, J. J. Cairney, A. Don, W. M'Donald, A. M. Finfeyson, and one elder each from Mornington, Ravensbourae, Waikouaiti, South Dunedin, East Taieri, First Church, Chalmers Church, Mosgiel, Maori Hill; also as members of the Assembly — Messrs Henderson, Fitzgerald, Anderson, and J. Neill; it being understood that, in the event of other vacancies occurring, the names of Messrs Spratt and Mathieson should be considered next. ; PBESBY/TSBUH OBPHANAG*. Mr Axcls^n read the third annual report of the Presbyterian Social Service Association, and moved its adoption. _ j Mr Cameron, in seconding the motion, , spoke of the extent and excellence of the work. Mr Ohisholm said the Presbytery should place on record its appreciation of the earnest and useful work done by Mr Axelsen and his staff The Presbytery had known httle of these matters, and had no iraide in precedent. The workers, therefore, had been very much left to themselves, and had shown wisdom and enthusiasm which commanded admiration. The report was adopted, and the retiring members of the executive were re-elected. Commenting upon the excellence of the work done by Mr Axelsen, Mr Cameron suggested that he, instead of being termed 1 in agent," should be known as "super.nre .dent." \ Voice: Why not make him a professor? — t'Liiughter ) It was decided to draft a minute appreciui, •- of the work of Mr Axelsen and staff.
