INVERCARGILL D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

Motto " Excelsior." Th& customary weekly meeting of above club was held iv the chibioom, Esk street, on Wednesday ■vemng, September 8. Shasta occupied the chair, and there was a fair attendance of members considering term holidays and ether counter attractions. As country members are a little slow in recarding their votes for a- representative on the General Committee, it was decided to close the date for receiving votes and elect Mother's Help to the position, all the votes to hand being for her. The subject ior -the- evening. \»as a debate on "Whr has had more Influence for Good on the World's History — Man or Woman?" After rather a- listless debate those supporting the side of Woman won. This debate brought forth very few prepared papers, but most of the, members -had a little to say for one side or the other. Nsxt Wednesday evening che interclub debate with First Church comes off. The debate is to le held in the Firet Church Hall. Memoers, please all come along and hear our members uphold, the honour of our club. Th" Wednesday following a riddle-guessing comoetition is on, so most of the members are having a lest for a fortnight. It is to be hoped that jrhen the next debate comes off in the clubroom every member will be found taking an active part after such a Jong- holiday. CASINO, Secretary.
