MASTER SEVERELY FINED. AUCKLAND, September 13. Judgment was by Mr Cutten. S.M.. to-day in the prosecution instituted by T. M'Clocland against H. Subritzky, m:nter of the auxiliary schoner Greyhound, for breaches of sections 41, 56, and 59 of "The Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908." Informant claimed that he was cook on the Greyhound on the voyasje to Awapui and back, and did not l'-eceive a certificate of discharge. The defence was that M'Clocland was merely a stowaway. The magistrate said the informant's record was a good one. The defendant's conduct in impunging hi« character was contemptible in the extreme. Defendant would be convicted and fined the maximum penalty of £20 in all. Defendant was ordered to pay informant at the rate of 5s 3d a day for each day. or pait of a day, that the discharge \va< withheld, and was also ojdered to pay CG.--U. The advertisement calling f<->i' offais from persons willing to act a- caretaker at the Goro raeeoource brought forth no fewer than 54 application*. Of these T3 were from Gore and eight from Imcrcirgill. Applications were also recened from persons in Dunedin, Wycdhain. Mataura Island, Heriot, Seaward Downs. River«Idale, Chatton. Ralfour, Waikouaiti. Alexandra South, Oainaru, Mataura, and W<iikaka Valley.
