NOTES BY JACK.
Although the voting for the election of the council of the N.Z.B.A. is not complete, the Dunedin and Chrktohurch Centres Laving voted for the same candidates, the result will not be affected by the vot s of South Ota-go, NorMi Ota,;o, and South Canterbury not yet to hand. The Invercargill Centre voted for Messrs W. Allen, C. Grey, W. Dall, J. Taylor, G. Crow, and O. Balk. The following will constitute ths new council : — President, Mr J. M. Gallaway; vke-presidsnt, Mir F. W. Johnston©; 'treasurer, Mr J. H. Hancock; councillor*— Messrs Balk, Orow, Maxlow, SpeJight, Taylor, and Waddell. Theso gentlemen .received the votes of Dunedin and Christchurch Centres. The new council will bo a council of presidents. The North Otago Centre with ita three oluba has a representative in Mr Wad dell, and Mr Taylor haying only recently removed from Invercargill ehould be able to speak for that centre. Tho defeat of M>r O. Grey, the representative of the South Ota-go Centre, w'th its ©even clubs, is a matter to be regretted. He was essentially a representative of the purely country clubs, such as Clinton, Tapanui, Lawrence, etc., which from their isolation have not the advantage possessed by cluVs more in touch with the principal centres. It may be mentioned that th3i South Otago Centre approyed of the stand of the Invercargill Centre the council's financial proposals. While the Dunedin Centre has unanimously decided to suggest that Mr Waddell's motion to institute champion, of ohampiona, rinks and singles, bs. postponed for 12 months, the Invercargill Centre approves of the proposal. , . The Christchurch Centre has decided to run A and B pennant Matches this season cm Saturdays, ar.d also decided on having Thursday penan* matches in which aot more than one Saturday player, who. should not be allowed to skip, will take pairt. The Match Committee was recommended to continue pennant matches throvg-hovnt the season instead of finishing in December a3 under tha old system. - . . A New South Wales team of bowlers' is to visit Queensland during the present month, arriving at Brisbane on the 13th. There are ihree test matches to be played, and six other games are set .lown on the programme, including matches at Bundaberg, Maryborough, Gympie, and Toowooniba and Roma Ckibs combined. Th-5 fr.ct tbat the critics in Brisbane express satisfaction with the team selected to represent Quaensland is referred to as an almost unique experience. DUNEDIN CENTRE. A meeting of the above centre was held on the 13th in the Pakce Hotel, Mr C. I E. Keast being in the chair. ! The ballot for the election of six members to the council resulted in the appointment of the following : —Messrs Waddell, Speight, Balk, Marlow, Crow, and Taylor. Mr Gillies moved that the competition for the snuff mull be continued on the eamc conditions as formerly — namely, that the club winning the largest number of Saturday interclub matohe3 shall be the holder of the mull for 12 months, the club winning it twice in succession or j three times in the aggregate to become the absolute owner — existing wins to count. —Mr Glover seconded the motion. Mr W. Allen (Taie-ri) said the mull had been given on certain conditions, and these ehould be ascertained before anything was done. Mr J. C. Short moved and Mr John White seconded— " That it be suggested to the council that consideration of Mr W. Waddell's notice of motion be postponed for one year."— The motion was carried without dissent. . The notice of motion deals with conditions' governing a suggested competition of champion of champions rinks and others. Mr J. C. Stephens moved—" That it be suggested to the council to alter tho constitution by proiiding that in the case of elections to the council and all proposals submitted by the council to the vote of centres, the actual •votes of delegates to the centre for and against be forwarded to the council, and that the election or proposal be decided by a majority of such vote©." — Mr J. Lindsay seconded the motion. — Mr White 6UT>r>orted the present system, and said an alteration would disfranchise some of ihe clubs. — Mr Allen said Mr White had missed the point. Tho present system disfranchised some of the clubs. — The motion was carried unanimously. Mf Armstrong moved, and it wae carried with applause — " That the centre place on record its appreciation of the sarvices rendered to bowling by Mr John Brown (president), Mr J. M. GaJlaway (vicepresident), Mr James Rennie (treasurer), and Messrs W. Allan. W. Dall, W. Austin, C. Gray, C. Fraser, and W. Waddell— members of the outgoing council ; and although this centre may hold a different opinion from some of these members on questions of policy, yob this centre recognises that these gentlemen have devoted
and given valuable time and attention for the good "of bowling, and gratefully acknowledges the same" On the motion of Mr J. C. Short it was resolved—" That this centre compliments the council and secretary on the excellent annual report and balance sheet, the information contained therein being both valuable and useful to clubs and bowlers generally." , It was decided that clubs should find their champion for the Champion of Champions Match before the 23rd of March, the match to take place on that date.
