M'Donald (president of the Horowhenua Club) -won the Hurdle Race each day. • With Waimarie, by Mahaki— Melinite", he scored on the first day, and Aotea on the second. Waimtavie may win again at the Rangitikei meeting next week. He is framed by J. Broeeer, and Ao£ea by C. Pritehard. , The latter informed me- that he would probably be sending Aema and the two- ■ year-old colt Odessa down to Wingatui next month. Aema will not go to Rangitikei, : but will probably be seen out at the Lower Vallej meeting before going south. Odessa , is to be given a run in the Maiden Plate ' ac Marton "next. 1 Mr J. Buckley was present at Horowhenua to see All Red. The Stepniak i. horse was only seen- Dut in the Cup on the first da} . He -ran prominently for about , six furlongs, when he lost his position and | finished last. Prossar has the big horse ! nice and forward! in condition. He will not be raced at Rangitikei, but will be seen out at Wanganui, also Trentham. .< j The sale of Kelso ,at the Grand National meeting evidently did not eventuate. W., Galbraith brought the horee back, and he j ie entered for the second day of the Lower j Valley meeting. Whatakura leaves for the south on Mon- j day to fulfil his- hurdle engagements a 6 the Adhburton meeting. The following j week he is engaged in the races for gentleJ men .riders^ at Lower VaHey. j Hen. James Carrofl witnessed the racing on both days of the Horowhenua meeting. The Acting-Premier is a patron of J. W. Lowe's stable. Lowe won a double with" ; the Birkenihead mare Inez. She got to i ' the end of seven furlongs on the second 1 ' day, and beat Sandstream after a good I finish. The* latter will now be freshened j up a bit, and wall miss Rangitikei. Inez { lis engaged in the Flying at Marten. Lowe ' is also taking up Iranui. I Two promising horses were seen out at 1 "Horowhenua. Marengo, a three-year-old cold by Soult— Dodona, was fanoied for the I ilai-den on the first day;, but finished in the ( ruck. On the second day he came with a ■ great rattle at the end of a five-Furlong j race, an-di scored on ihe post. Marengo is ! engaged at Lower Valley He is trained j by F. Higgett at the Hutt, an* should not be long getting out of the hack c^iss. I j The other youngster was Lace- Collar, by I Menechikoff — Casterlace, a. full sister in ' blood to Armlet. She ran green in the i Maiden, and was beaten by Captain Bell, ' 1 who is consistent if not brilliant. On the second day Lace Collar, a particularly smart I beginner, scored i.n a half-mile race. She ji6 engaged in the Flying at Wanganui I j The veteran sprinter Lord Soult was j wafked across from Foxlon on the morning lof the second day of the meetinar. He had ~ j a good pacemaker in Naumai, who was not forward enough to c cc the distance out. Lord Soult looked "very rough on it, but must hixTe done gome work as he got in- ' 6id<>. limn 2sec. j Naumai is en-gaged at tJie Avondale 5 nieeting^which opens next week. He got ', 10.9 on the first day, and hi« owner thought it advisable to keep him at home. I Mr D. Buick, M.P., won the Horowhenua Cup with one of his own breeding — viz., Aberbrothock, by Papakuro — Miniature. The horse ran a good race at Marton the previous week. He won from end to end, I and shaped like a stayer. On the second I day he carried 10.2 and beat Dolce 9.6 I over a mile comfortably. Jenkins was on j Aberbrothock, ,and a stable Boy on Dolce.
