TRIBUTE TO DR COOK.
(Faoic Otm Ow Cpßaracpoiiraarr.) '.' CHRISTCHURCH, Septembsr 9. Mrs Katharine Lente Steavenson, who is- .touring, the world in the interests of the T.W.C.T.U., arrived 'in Christ-, church to-day. Asked what 4she thought as a patriotic American of the exploits of her countrymen — Dr Cook and Lieutenant Peary, — she said that she could not understand the doubt which had been thrown on Dr Cook's account of his expedition. He was a man of unblemished reputation, and it was most unlikely, unless he had gone " daft," that he would invent the story he had given to the
world. A possible reason for the cloud of doubt that ha^l arisen was that some people, specially interested in Peary's mission wtre rebelling against the sole honour being given to Dr Cook. Everyone had expected Peary to\get through, as his expedition had been planned \vith very grtat care.
