SALVATION ARMY.
TWENTY-SIXTH ANNIVERSARY. In continuation of the celebration of the twenty-sixth anniversary of the establishment of the Salvation Army in Dunedin a special tea-meeting was held in the Salvation Army barracks on the Ist, at 6 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by a "musical tornado." At tea a large number sat down to partake of the good things provided at the 11 tables, each ol wnich had a distinctive sign indicating supervision by field officers, social officers band, choristers, local officers, junior IlnsI lns ; p la««*f<. bachelor-; married folk' Brother and Sister King, and "symjmtuisers." There were 25 held officers of Otago district present, presided over by JBngadiei- and Mrs Albiston and Adjutant i inurketMe, local officer in charge. During I the day two sessions of the Officers' Council were held. After the tea had been disposed of the !i was o'e^red for the "musical tornado. This was prefaced by a brief address by Brigadier Albiston, commander pt the bouth Island, in the course of which he refuted any suggestion that the Army to-day was not as alive as ever it was Just recently they had opened up Korea by sending out two or three officers from England, and these had within ten weeks enrolled 170 men and women. The Army « as still marching on, and did not keep itself confined to one place. They were prepared to go to China, Russia, or Japan or any other part of the world— were world-wide in their organisation and not limited The General (General Booth) in a short address had said that during the year 1908 he had been eucoessful either directly or indirectly in converting 30.000 souls. These had found salvation on tho penitent forms of the Army, which had been brought into being and organisation by the General who, as "the grand old ma f n » was entitled to some of the credit. The musical programme consisted of an opening march by the band, a pianoforte solo by Miss Nellie Bradley, a character song composed by Conductor Wilson a recitatwn by Lieutenant Banks, a trombone solo by Bandsman J. Canty, a duet by the Brothers Hildreth, a solo by Captain Fletcher, and a duet by Captain and. Mrs. Wain. . In addition the chdrieters contributed two anthems, and Miss Eva Hughson gave an exhibition of clubswmgmg, the whole concluding with the rendering of the quartet " Nearer, My God, To Thee."
