SOUTHLAND CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
(Prom Ocb. Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL,. September 2. The annual mcc.ting of the Southland Caledonian Society was held to-night. The balance sheet showed that, although" the society had made a loss of about £80 during the year, there was yet a safe credit, balance. The remarks made on the report and balance sheet indicated, that members wei'e very well satisfied with the society's position, and that they intended to stick to their attitude regarding the Athletic Union. It was resolved " That the members of the Southland Caledonian Society tender their hearty good wishes to the Wanganui Caledonian Society ; also their wannest congratulations on the splendid success which has attended all their operations during the past year. In wishing the Wanganui Society a continuation of the success and esteem they have experienced, the Caledonian Society of Southland further desires to express the highest appreciation of the able and zealous services to Caledonianism given so ungrudgingly by Mr N. Mackenzie Forbes, "whose good works stamp him as being undoubtedly one of the very best Caledonians south of the line." A resolution of congratulation to the Southland Cricket Association for its attitude in the trouble with the N.Z.A.T7. was also carried. The following officers were elected : — President. Mr W. Martin; vice-presidents Messrs T. Timpany, John MacGregor, and D. M'Farlane ; diiectors — Messrs T. A. • Wallis, James MacGregor, D. A. Mitchell, W. Murdoch. N. J. Keane, A. M'Neil, G. Taylor (three years), James Walker (two yeais), j. Hamlyn (one year) i auditors, Messrs W. Young and J. E. Hannah ; members on Park Board, Messrs James MacGregor and T. A. Wallis.
