A YOUNG NEW ZEALANDER AT BISLEY.
♦ Amongst the 600 riflemen who took part in the great annual shooting meeting at Bisley (Surrey) theTe was a young New Zealander — one of the two representatives of Natal who were sent to England from the High Schools of that colony. Two other cadets- -one from Natal and the other from the Transvaal — constituted the party. All three boys have already dis-
tinguished themselves at Bisley, and their shooting has attracted considerable attention and commendation from the London press, as the following Reuter's cablegrams to Durban papers show: — "London, July 13. — The three visiting cadets from South Africa— Servant and Halley (Natal), and Morgan ( Transvaal)— are attracting much attention." " July 18. — Th? most popular shots among the cadets attending the 'Bisley meeting are Hall y and Servant (Natal), and Morgan (Tran:vaal). The papers give prominence to Halley's score of 98 in the S ock Ex-
change compstition, including a magnificent 34 at 600 yds," for which he won a prize. "July 20.— 1n the Alexandra competition, seven shots at 200 and 600 yards, Halley won a prize of £2." Latest Natal papers are dated July 21, and the Bisley meeting was then still in progress, so that the South African cadets (who in several matches were competing with expert adult shots) had opportunities for further success while the competitions lasted. Young Halley, who is a native of Mornington, achieved considerable fame as a marksman in South Africa before going to England.
