OTOKIA SCHOOL CONCERT.
On Friday. 3rd inst., a very successful concert waa neld in the Otokia School, Mr J. Lousley 'chairman of committee) presiding-. The room was beatuitully dccora'ed, jnd the attendance very large. The following contributed items to the programme: Mr J Allan (piano solo), pupils (song), Miss liilaeiidorf (humorous reading), Misses Liddle, Fawcott, and Watson (trio), pupil* (rfag dril!^, Mr Fawcett (song). The fi>-«t part of the programme concluded with a humorous dialogue "Wanted, a Servant," in which Miss H. Lcu&kv, Miss B. M'Corkindale, and the Misses C. Reid, N. Johnston. S. Reid, and I. Shaw took part very creditably. Tn the second part Miss M'Coll played a piano solo, Mr Fawcett gave a reading and recitation, Mr Stevenson a song, Mr Aitken songs, Mr F. Campbell a song, Mr J. Allan a song, and Misses Liddle and Watson and Mr Fawcett a humorous dialogue. The singing of the children was quite a feature of the concert, and reflected credit on the leach&r (Miss M'Leod). There was a donee afterward*, Messrs J Allan, A. Beach, and D. Sinclair supplying the music and Mr J. Lousley acting as M.C.
A solicitor asked a witness in the Auckland Supreme Court if he expected the court to believe that he had lived in New Zealand 45 years and did not know how to ask in Maori for a drink. His Honor : "Why, Mr Hackett, I have been for the best part of half a century here, and I could certainly not ask for a drink in Maori.' 1
