Notes from Greymonth. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
GREYMOUTH, September 3. Captain Richards officially inspected the Ross Goldpelds Company's plant on Thursday, and issued his final certificate required by the Mines Act, thus enabling the company to proceed with the unwatering of' the ground. The pumps 'were set in motion on Tuesday afternoon, and speedily reduced the water 30ft. A great deal of delay is experienced, however, in con- • sequence of the old pumps having to bo removed. This difficulty overcome, the unwatoring of the mine should speedily be completed. i The (Jallaghans district promises to look ' up from a mining point of view. Apart ! from the developments- on the flat, good gold is now being obtained on some of , the adjacent high terraces, with a result ; that a mild rush has set in. The ground, I however, is limited at present, and will bo difficult to work because of the want [ of water. In one tunnel prospects of 7d\vt to the load were obtained. This led to a good deal of ground being pegged out, and other tunnels are now being put in to test the country. It is hoped to trace the lead down alon£>- tie high terraces towards Goldsborough.
