MRS T. W. HISLOP. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) WELLINGTON, September 8.

Mrs T. W.- Hielop, wife of the Hon. , T. W. Hislop, a- formex Minister of the ' Crown, and ex L Mayor of Wellington, died | to-day. Mrs Hielop had. been in -poor, health for some months. She was one j of the best known women, in Wellington, where she was, owing to her interest in; charitable and public affairs, remarkably ■ popular. She was a woman of a great j deal more than average ability, and had ■ a wide knowledge of New Zealand politics ' and political She was a native ' of Australia, and was 61 years of age. j It is now a good many years since she ' came with her husband and a young I family from Dunedin to Wellington, and j during her residence in the capital she was wonderfuly energetic both in philanthropic and civir matters. In the various parliamentary and municipal contests in which her husband took part she was a tireless worker. The citizens recently recognised her good works by making a presentation to her. Her surviving sons and daughters are Dr Walter Hi'lop (Wellington) ; Mr Thomas Hislop, etudyin.z medicine in England : Mrs Shand (wife of Dt Shand. Wellington) : Mrs Cooper (wife of Mr C. J. Cooper, Ohristchurch) ; and Miss Joan Hislop.
