CANTERBURY MARKETS.

CHRISTCHURCH GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT. (Lytteton Times, September 4.) Owing probably to the fact of the wet weather experienced recently having made it impossible for much work to be done on the land, the offerings of wheat from farmers have been larger during .the last few days than usu?l, but for the most part holders are unprepared to accept current prices. The continued weakness of the Home market has had the effect of making prices easier, and dtaring the last few wesks prices all around have receded, the curj*nt value of the various varieties no\. ranging from 4s 3d to 4s 4d, on trucks at country stations. Most of the transactions reported during the last few days have been between merchants, purchases from first holders- having beem.* very limited. It is now evident that ihs stocks held by millers are becoming depleted, as several of them came on the market during the current month, and several fairly large 'LiiKß have pafse'd to them. In oat 3 the weakness recently reported has become 6omewhat accentuated in cone.3qu'jnce of th& dearth of orders from the North Island, but few holders will accept offers, and prefer to await developments, being for the "most part confident that values will improve later in the season. Potatoes and onions 'elicit a fair demand, font tihe amount of business has been within narrow limits. Up-io-Datcs command littlo attention, the chief inquiry being for DiSrwtnts, the best class of which realise £3 Onions arsi now becoming a scarce commodity, and it is not expected that much business will be done in this vegetable from this time on. Chaff commands slightly more attention than beforo, but no advance in valuesi has to be ohionicled. ASHBURTON. The wheat market has been co.n>iderafclv ea~i°r. with vM'y little inquiry from millprs. The only sale reported is one of a line of fair, average quality Hunters, which changed hand-; at 4s 2d on trucks, oqiial to 4s 5d f.0.b., sacks extra. Millers appear to be fully stocked .for the present, and but for the fact that there is very little grain und:r offer there would be great difficulty in finding an outlet.
