The monthly meeting of the Waihemo j County Council, h«ld on August 21, was I attended by Mr D. M. Philip (chairman), j Crs Ross, O'Neill, M'Callum, Bayley, i M'Lay, M'Connall, and "Clark. An apology was received from Cc. Sutherland for absence. . • - - - "\ Thomas Stenhouse waited upon the-eoun-cil with regard to Mrs Anderson's 'gate, which had been, by. resohitiorirof .the ooun-. cil. directed to be" removed; ~ He pointed out the inconvenience arising- frpm the gate, and 6poke in opposition to a' petition, praying max ga"teS might be ordered to be removed from his (Mr Swrthouse'e) pro- | perty. — Notice of motion was given to ! rescind the resolution ~of the council • j directing the removal of Mis—Anderson's i gate, and it was resolved, in relation- to the petition, that the chairman, members | tor me- riding- an>rt other \couneriloFß pay -< ' a. visit of inspection to ,Mr StenihbuseV ' ■ l> road at Goodwood, asd. report, j TW Towh' Clerks }Palmeiston, wrote in reference to a ;cJeim--for £30 for the del ettuction of- entail birds, and asked rrha* | th& aniouiMr paid by the County Council in respect to" the-' small bird nuisance -for the last three years had been. — Information to be supplied-.- " \" The - Motor Association wrote asking- "', wnere the warning ■ discs for tho roads had been plaoed. — -Information .to be supplied by the, inspector. The Manoitcto County Council's Inspector wrote with reference to an expenditure necessary to be made at Mardiin's Ford: — It was agred that the necessary work "r>p done «i-. th^ expense of the Waihemb County Council. * ■. The Fipance Committea's report, recommending the payment of accounts .amounting to £175 8s lid, was adopted. - The Inspector reported with regard to Mr Peter M'Leod's , road, Green ~"V!alley, that it required £20 expended on a. culvert and embankment. — It was resolved that the work be done out of land revenue. . In regard to the^ Meadowbank- and^ Dunl&sk Ridings, the Inspector was authorised to caiU for tenders for 100 yds -of gravel for Lister's road. It was resolved that a further 6upply of poisoned grain* for the d-estruchoi at small birds be obtained and distributed. On the motion of Or ~ Bayley, it_ was- resolved that "the isisipaetor be instructed . to bring up a Teport as to the quantity of gravel required to l>iace .the' worst parta of -fehe road between Dunback and Pigxoot in repair. Aftje-r luncheon the members of the i council visited the Waihemo Domain, disi tant some three-quarters of a mile, with ; *the object of, making, an inspection of, the. | same.* One reason of ■ the visit was that j the . council had . bean petitioned by. the Caledonian Society, to form a racing' track . on the. reserve. ',
No proceedings have yet been instituted against the roen who are alleged to have -skinned, rabbits alive at Mauriceville and . , -then Jefc then* go .toi-seei.'hdw far, they - -would run. -The reason, is that the Master--ton Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals cannot find anyone willing to come forward and make a statement.
