PROHIBITION MAJORITIES.
In reply to an inquiry of the Associated Prohibition Press, Mr F. W. Lough (State chairman) forwards a complete list to date of all the " dry " counties in Indiana, a large proportion of which have voted under the new county prohibition law. In these 70 -counties, ■ which are now dry, the majorities for ' prohibition aggregated 79,061j 1029 saloons have been voted out, but there are 4290. -left, or more than 80 per cent, of the total number prior to the commencement' of 'the contests. These 4290 saloons are now segregated in 22 "wet" counties, in which are also located 41 breweries and 18 distilleries. ' The total population of Indiana now enjoying county prohibition is 1,780,839, or. 65 per cent, of the total population of the State, which is 2,710,898 (in 1906). The 70 " dry " counties of Indiana are as follow : — Adama, Bartholomew, Benton, Boone, Brown, Camoll, Clay, Clinton, Crawford, Daviess, Decatur, Dekalb. Delaware, Elkha.rt, Fayette, Fountain, Fulton, Gibson, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Harrison, Hendricks, Henry, Howard 3 Huntington, Jackeon, Jasper, Jay, Jefferson, Jennings, Jorneon, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Lawrence, Madison, Marshall, Marton, Miami. Monroe, Morgan. Montgomery, Newton. Noble, Ohio, Orange, Owen, Parke, Pike, Pula^ki, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Scott, Shelby, Starke, Steuben, Sullivan, Switzerland, Tipton, Union, Vermillion, Wabash, Warren, Waxrick, Washington, Wells, White, Whitley. The 70 '"dry" counties now include the following cities of 5000 population or over :— Muncic (27.293), Anderson (25,842), Elkhart (17,501), Kokomo (12,019), Peru (11 648), Vinoennes (11,393), Huntington (11 047), Washington (10,045), Wabash (9944, Columbus (8976), Linton (8500), Madison (7835), Goshen (7810), Brazil (7786), Alexandria (7221), Shelbyville (7169), Frankfort (7100), Connersville (6836), Crawfordsville (6649), Bloommgton 6460 , Seymour (6445), Bedford (6115), Princeton (6041), Greensburg (5034), Portland (5000), Rushville (5000), Greenfield (5000), Bluffton (5000), Lebanon (5000), Decatur (5000), Martinsville (5000), Franklin (5000).
Mr William Robertson, of Horseshoa Bay, Stewart Island, has been authorised to kill opossums up to 31st October on i*»rtain lands belonging to him.
