TARANAKI OILFIELDS.
THE BRINK OF SUCCESS. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 24. The obstruction in No. 3 bore of the Taranaki Petroleum Company was cleaned on Monday night, and prospecting operations were resumed. This morning the joll had risen 1500 ft in the well, and several "barrels were secured during the day by means of a tedious Band pump process The sample of oil is the best erer secured on the field, being extremely rich in paraffin -wax. The thorough testing of this bore cannot be carried out immediately as the only pump available m in No. 2 bore. The directors met tonight, and cabled for a new pump, to be
delivered at the earliest possible moment. The pressure of gas is enormous, and the workmen are quickly incapacitated, necessitating regular adjournments to the opeo air to recuperate. An arrangement has been made to alternately spell the hands at No. 2 bore r where Mr Berry commences bis challenge test early next week to produce a mminnwn of 20 barrels daily. Everything is now in readiness. This well has been, producing 15 barrels daily for some time. The pump was again set going this afternoon, and" the oil is now flowing freely.
Of the students at tibe Royal Normal College for the Blind, South London, rreailj 90 por cent, are self-supporting.
