A subsidy of pound for pound will be giver to an amount to be determined in each approved oase. It is impossible to devise a plan that will suit all caseß, as local carodiiiiions have to be carefully considered from a safety -point of view, and each oase has. therefore, to be dealt with separately. "" I shall be triad to receive applications for the establishment of these ranges, and will furnish full particulars as to rei quirements. A proportion of .22 calibre ! rifles, specially suitable for miniature ranges, will be issued as soon as a supply is obtained in place of the .30 rifles now on isne. In has opinion it was most important that the youth of the Dominion should learn, to hanidtle a rifle, and here was a splendid chance. If we had in fcbe Thova.xa.ioa 100,000 young^ men under arms a foreign Power would thiinik twice before interfering witlc us.
