RAILWAY COLLISION IT KAIAPOI.
| NO SERIOUS DAMAGE. CHRISTCHURCH, August 22. A collision occurred at the Kaiapoi railway station at 6 o'clock yesterday evening near tf i 'south water-tank. The express train from Culverden, comprising an engine and nine vehicles, were standing at the platform when the train from Christchurch, instead of going on to the ] loop line at the "oiifts, came on to the main line and .an into the standing j train, forcing it along a distance of six^ yards and damaging the cowcatcher. j The passengers were very much shaken, but no one was seriouely injured. After j the cowcatcher had been removed from i the express and a thorough examination '' of the two trains made both went on ' their way half an hour late. The cause of the accident is supposed to have been * stone getting into the points.
WGBKFRS' HOMFS. . . . GISBORNE, August 19. Tie Acting Prime Minister, referring to the subject of workers' homes, said hie colleague, Mr Millar, was inclined to think that workmen's homes up to the present had been rather a failure, and he proposed to obtain an amendment to the ant. Some of these buildings were tenantlees, and Mr Millar was inclined to think it would be wise to provide that those taking tip these homes should be able in the end to make them thear own. That would tend to permanency of tenancy.
