TRAVELLING ALLOWANCES. i WELLINGTON, August 19. It is notified in to-night's Gazette that except in cases where a higher rate is, or may be, specially authorised by the (Minister, officers travelling on the service vf the Boet and Telegraph Department ,trill receive the following allowances for personal expenses: — Officers drawing salaries npt exceeding £400 per annum, 20s per diem ; officers drawing salaries exceedieg £400, 12a 6d ; while at sea, < for the first day, the ordinary on shore allowance, for subsequent days 2s 6d* ; •for the last day's travelling, actual expenses only will be paid. The cost of transport by land and sea will be paid by, the department. Officers performing
relieving duty are not entitled to draw travelling allowance under this regulation except for any time du-ring which they perform, such relieving duty, except as follows : — When in perf ormng relieving duty an officer is not required to stay more than three nights in the place where such duty is performed, he may claim to be paid travelling allowance instead of relieving allowance, if his accommodation for the time of his stay is not fully paid for by the relieving allowance, and if he so claims he shall oe paid accordingly." Tn order to facilitate the work of post office eerrants, the Belgian postal authorities propose that correspondents shall in future use red envelopes for all letters to Brussels, yellow for the country, and green for abroad.
