NEW STEAMER LAUNCHER.
NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COM PANY'S RDAHINE. WELLINGTON, August 22. A cable message has been received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company to the effect that tbe company's new steamer Ruahine has been successfully launched at the yards of Messrs Wm. Denny and Sons, of Dumbarton. The new liner is to be engaged in the London-New Zealand direct trade. She will be the largest vessel in the New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet, and when ready "for service- -win, it. is. considered, be one of the best-appointed steamers in the trade. So far, no particulars of her construction are available. It is known, however, that ehe is a twin screw and will have a good turn of speed. First, second, and third class passengers will be carried. In general design the vessel has been specially built for the New Zealand trade. According to present calculations, the Ruahine will leave London on her maiden voyage on November 28 next. She is timed to take the February sailing from New Zealand to London. Captain H. G. Greenetreet, the popular commodore of the New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet, who is at present on the E.M-S. Rimutaka, is to have command of the new liner.
