RACING IN SUM ZEALAND.
WAIMATE HUNT CLUB.
The annual steeplechase meeting of the Waimate District Hunt Club was held last week. There was fine weather, although a cold wind blew across the course. The at- - tendance was goodx Ten bookmakers were licensed. There- were a few' mishaps, and C. Cornelius, rider of Sam Weller in the first race, was slightly injured 'through his mount falling and it was expected that the horse would have to be destroyed. The following are the results: — HUNT CLUB CUP.- Liberty 11.8, 1; Uncle Torn 11.8, 2; Butterfly 12.0, 3. Won by three lengths, after a fine race. FIRST HURDLES HANDICAP.— Spray Bird 10.9. 1 ; Cleo 10.9, 2 ; Fireaway 11.10, 3. Won by five lengths. BLUECLIFFS STEEPLECHASE.—Otekaike 12.3, 1; Springbok" 11.10, 2; Bangle 11.12, 3. Fitzroy and Messenger fell. OWNERS' STEEPLECHASE. — Karere 11.7, 1. LADIES' BRACELET.— Lone Ginger 11.3, 1; Spray Bird 11.9, 2; Cleo 11.9, 3. TALLY-HO PLATE.— Liberty 11.8, 1; TFncle Tom 11.8, I; Puzzler 11.12, 3.
