ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.
CHRISTCHURCIT, August 13 At the Addington yards to-day -there were moderate yardmgs of stock and a fair attendance Fat cattle and fat sheep sold belowlast week's rates. Stoic .^hcep were dull of sale, and pigs met with good demand. Store and dairy cattle sold well. The entry of store sheep was smaller than oi lsute, and was
chiefly composed of ewes, including a few good lines of two, four, and six-fcooths.
There were a few lots of ewes and lambs — the first offered in the yards tiiis season. The demand was void of animation, and several of the best lines failed to reach the owners' reserves at auction, but were sold privately. A specially good line of 201 six and eighttooth halfbred ewes made 18s 6d, 203 twotooths 16s 6d, and 197 -four-tootihs were passed at 17s 6d. Ail the ewes and lambs •which were passed made 9s 3d to 10s 3d, and halfbred wethers sold at 10s to 10s 6d. There were only eight new season's lambs penned, three (for F. Bailey, Templeton) selling at 20s, and five (for George Sea/ton, Kirwee) at 18s.
There was a larger entry of fat hoggets than last week, and they met with a fair sale at 10s 6d to 18s lid.
There was a fairly large yarding of fat sheep, and though there was a good demand on the part of the butchers, the supply was beyond their requirements, and prices were somewhat irregular, and, on the whole, easier. There was little business done for export. The range of prices was: Extra prime w-ethers 20s to 23s 3d, prime 16s to 19s 4d, lighter 12s 3d to 15s 6d, extra prime ewes to 18s 2d, prime 13s 6d to 16s, others 9s 6d to 13s, merino wethers 9s to 12s 4d.
The entry of fat cattle totalled 336 of fair average quality, and prices showed no change from the previous week, when they were rather firmer than the week before. At the opening of the sale several pens were passed, but these afterwards changed hands, but the time thus occupied delayed the fat sheep sale and caused seme complaints. Sleexs sold a-t £6 l?s 6d to fn 15s, heifers £5 to £9 7s 6d, and cow 3£i 7s 6d to £7 ss— equal-to 20s 6d to 22s 6d for prime, 18s 6d to 20s for medium, and 16s 6d to 18s for cow and inferior per 1001b.
A small entry of store cattle was made up chiefly of young sorts, and there was a good clearance. Yearlings made 31s to 365, fifteen to eighteen months £2 4s 6d to £2 14s 6d, two-year steers £3 Is to £3 17s Cd ; two-year heifers £3 to £3 8s; two and a-half-year steers £4 17s Gd, three-year steers £5 2,s to £5 7s 6d, three-year heifers £4 2s 6d, and dry cows 20s to £3 15s. Dairy cows were in good demand, and a fairly large entry was sold at £3 10s to £9, the v better sorts being well competed for. ' There was a large yarding of pigs, and all classes met with an improved demand, and a good clearance was effected. Choppers made £5 ss, heavy baconers 55s to 65a, lighter 45s to 52s 6d — equal to 4£d per lb; large porkers 38s to 445, and lighter 33s to 37s — equal to Bid to s|d ; large stores 33s to 37s 6d, medium 24s to 325; weaners 14s to 20s.
