DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE

While there has not been the same bulk of business effected on the share market this week as in the previous week, there has been a very respectable amount nut through. Easily the greater part of the ivo days activity has centred round Auckland quartz ventures. Commercial stocks have contributed a fair number of lines?, and mining stocks Lave been very much in the background. In regard to commercial stocks. Bank °f New Zealands may be described aa slightly firmer, the latest quotations being huyew £9 4s, sellers £9 7s. National Bank* ha-ve been offered at £5 9s, without eliciting any inquiry from buyers. Sellers of National Insurances have not been in evidence, but there have been buyer* in the vicinity of 28.s 9d. New Zealand Insurances are wanted at 745, without sellers, and sales are reported as having taken place in Standard Insurances at 23s 6d, with further buyers at 23s 3d, and sellers at 23s 9d. Westport Coals are available to pui chasers at £6 15s 6d, but there have boen n-> buyers in evidence. Up to 20? 6d has been offered for Donaghey'e Rope and Twino shares, but without drawing any Milbuin I,ime and Cements (£1 -hare.-) are quoted : Buyers 26s 6d. -011 p... 27-> 6d, and the 10s shares have bofn -.old afc 13s 6d. New Zealand Drugs are quoted : Buyers 46s 6d, sellers 475. while Portland Cements (large) have been on offer during the week at 41s 9d, without any buyers coming forward. New

i T Zealand Paper Mills have Lad buyers a( r 225. and sellers at 22s 9d. > Quartz mining scrip has displayed a I good deal of fluctuation, and a good many , sales all round have been put through. : There have been inquiries, without result. [ for New Alpines at 6s 6d for the contributing issue and at 7s for the paid ups, , Sal&3 in Barewoods are reported at 15s, and the latest prices recorded are: Buyers 14s, sellers 16s. May Queens have contributed a pretty solid amount of business. 1 ranging during the week from 5s lOd t» : 6s 3d, and closing with a perfectly firm 1 market yesterday, the quotations reading: Buyers 6s 2d, sellers 6s 3d. Two sales i were put through at the selling figure. i Talismans have eased considerably during i the week, and were yesterday quoted down r to sellers 576. the best buying offer being 55s 9d. Waihi Extendeds have displayed considerable fluctuation during the past few days. There were sales on 'Change at the beginning of the week at 8s 3d, and reported 6ales at 8s 5d on Tuesday. On Wednesday there was a perceptible decline, and seven parcels changed hands . at 7s lOd. By Thursday they had firmed up again, and transactions were pufc , through at 8s Id. Still, the close of the ! day saw buyers at 7s 9d, and sellers at . 7e lCd. On Friday the market was again* . weaker, no business being recorded, with .the closing quotations for the day: Buye:- ' y 7s 7d, sellers 7s 9d. There has been a! somewhat exciting market in Waihi Grand ■ Junctions, and the rise and fall of prices provides food for reflection as to the causes ' that contribute to euch fluctuation. Tues- , day's market in this stock was an easing one, and there was a continuation of the 1 same movement at the opening sitting on Wednesday morning, the prices then re- '• corded being buyers 50s, sellers 51s. The second call on that day, saw a very peri ceptible firming, doubtless created by ani ticipations of the crushing of 4850 tons of i stone for gold valued at £8408, intellii gence of which came to hand late in the i afternoon. The last call-over saw buyer* i advance to 52s 6d and sellers to 535, sales I: having been- previously put through up i to 52s 9d. There were anticipations of a . stronger market opening on Thursday morning, for sales had been made in tha interval at 54s 6d, 54s 3d, and 54s 9d.- • Anticipations in thi6 direction were, however, not realised, for the market then actually dropped a shade on those interim sales. There were further marked declines at the two succeeding calls, and the final quotes for the day were: Buyers 52s 9d,sellers 53s 9d. Friday displayed a continuance of the easing tendency, and afre:a spot delivery sale had been made at 51s 9d. buyers were quoting at 51s 6d and? seller? at 525. .There was a pronounced) upward move in Waiotahis on Thursday,, and sales were put through up to 7s sc. On Friday ircorning sales were mad& at th« advanced prices of 7s 8d and 7s lOd and 83. The\ eased at midday, but in tho ' afternoon hardened very, considerably and 1 - ales were made at aa nigh as 8s 7d and" 8s 9d, the marked advance then noted! being the outcome of intimation from th» mine that some 25 pounds of picked stono had been obtained from the No. 4 leve'. Dredging scrip has been almost totally neglected, as- far as the call-room is concerned, at anyrate. Values have been for the most part almost stationary and whatf little movement there has been for better or worse, has not attracted particular attention. A fair amount of business was put through on 'Change yesterday. Ten sales were recorded over the three sittings, an<l nine. were reported as having taken place. There was no very perceptible movement in any of the stocks quoted. The following are Monday's latest quotations, subject to the usual brokerage: — Dredging Stocks. Alexandra Eureka— Sellers 3s 3d.
