CONTEMPT OF COURT.
A STIFF PENALTY.
CJIRISTCHUKCH, August 11.
At the Banco fitting of the Supreme Court this morning, before Mr Justice Penniston, Mr Stringer, K.C., acting for the Crown, moved, under section. 432 of "The Crimes Act, 1908," for the commitment for contempt of court of John Thomas M'Kinnon, manager of the weekly newspaper Truth, in respect to the publication by that journal of details of * certain ca-se in the Magistrate's Court on January 30 last, the magistrate having made an order prohibiting publiction. His Honor, in giving judgment, said the facts disclosed deliberate and impudent contempt of the court which heard the case. Defendant would be fined £100 and costs. His Honor added that had the writer of the article been before the court he would have imposed a sentence of imprisonment..
