The ordinary monthly meeting of the Bruoe County Council, held on the 3rd in 9t.,9 t., was attended by Crs EL M. Driver (chairman), J. Tough, T. H. Russell, D. Boyd, P. Haggart, D. Gardyne, W Ball, Jasper Clark, J. Smith, J. Adam, and J M. Begg. - , CORRESPONDENCE. ] Inder and Cochrane, solicitors, Gore, ' wrote forwarding a petition from 26 rate- \ payers in the Milburn district for the for- i mation of a tramway from Milburn Station to the lime deposits. — Application granted, subject to the conditions of the act being complied with. Conditions to be drawn up to the satisfaction of the engineer. The Under-secretary Lands Department wrote stating that the Minister could not see his way to vest the lands on the mar- 1 gins of the Tuakitoto and Kaitangata ' Lakes in the council. — Received ; clerk to write pointing out that when the money i was voted the impression was that the land should be vested in the council. ! The Clerk of the Treasury telegraphed stating that cheque for £853 in payment j of grants would be posted on Thursday. — Received. The Inspector of Stock, Balclutha, wrote . enclosing account for work clone and i material used on account of the council, I and asking for a prompt settlement. — Ac- ' count passed for payment. The Chief Inspector of Stock wrote for- j certificate of renewed slaughtering license duly appro\ed by the Hon. the • Minister of Agriculture for issue to the licensee. — Received. j John Wither, Bern ick, v.-rote asking per- i mission to fence from tho corner of sec- J tion 36, block 11, across the chain reserve ' tc the Waipoii Rner. He was prepared to ! put in a gate if required. — Permission granted ; gate to be hung to the satisfaction of the engineer. James Allen, M.P., wrote stating that the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie, Minister of ] Agriculture, would not reach Balclutha '' before August 15, and that the Minister of j Public Works (Hon. R. M'Kenzie) would ; do Otago Central and Southland before ,' doing the Bruce district. — Received; all councillors able to be present to meet the i Minister, with the committee (Crs Hag- ' gart and Boyd and the engineer) in con- [ nection 'with river works. REPOIITS. The Engineer reported that roads had become muddy on the surface during the ! past month, and the works had not made ' much progress since the last report was ] submitted. Contracts for formations were progressing. Drainnere works at Inchclutha had been carried out as far as the rross roads, when it was proposed to stop ' for the present.
