Hours for Cattle-<lri\ ing.— William Townley was charged with driving cattle through St. Kilda at 9.20 a.m., contrary to the St. Kilda by-law-,.— Mr Hanlon appoarcd fov defendant, who pleaded " Not guilty." Mr Hanlon said the defendant was a rcsiJ-ont of the Peninsula, and it was hard and meet unreasonable that drovers from the Peninsula going to Burnside ehould have to drive through St. Kilda -and Caversham, at or before 8 o'clock in the morning, and, moreover, if a Peninsula farmer brought cattle at Burnside he could drive them back only at or after 10 p.m. This was a matter of great inconvenience to farmers on the Peninsula. — His Worship admitted that there was 6ome hardship, and suggested that the local authorities concerned should be interviewed. — Defendant woxxld be fined 5s aad costs (7s)
