FIRES.

WANGANUI, August 12. A store and dwelling at Kaiawi, 'owned by Mr H. Robinson, and occupied by Mr J. W. H. Harvey, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. The buildings and stock were insured, but the stovekeeper' is a heavy leser. Particulars regarding insurances are not available.

I WAIROA, August 12. [ The District School, which accomnao* dated over 200 scholars, was burned to the ground last night. {The fire was fanned by a gale. The puprls and teachers suf-^. : fered losses in books. Only the records ■ and organ and a few desks were saved. : It is supposed that the fire was caused , by a defective chimney. A6HBURTON, August 13. The wooden • premises occupied by E. Manchester and Co. (plumbers) and Miss M'Rae (dressmaker), together with the . stock and plant contained therein, were totally destroyed by fire early this -morning. The cause of the fire is unknown. Manchester's stock was insured for. £500 and the building for £600,_botb in the Atlas office. Mr Manchester states that N at the last valuation the building and stock were estimated to be > worth £750 each, and his loss, therefore, will be £400. Mies M'Rae's kock was insured ' in the Atlas office for £30.
