GOVERNMENT BUSHFELLING WORKS.
A FAVOURABLE REPORT.
WELLINGTON, August 13. The Acting Minister of Lands (Mr Fuddo), seen Dy, a Post representative in ( regard to the progress of the bush-felling i scheme at the Rangitatau block, Waitatara, stated that the works were going on [ satisfactorily. The engineer had just reported favourably to the department that the employment of the men working theTe ■was showing satisfactory results. Failaverage wages could be earned, while some camps would do well. It' was intended to employ 50 per" cent, of the men on clearing and opening" the- road lines after September 1, -with a view to having the block ready for settlement. " There had. been ,no complaints. About 16 men had left tfce works since the commencement. . but not, for' reasons in connection with the work. Cabinet ' had not yet decided whether to. open the block for settlement in December, next or to leave it till February, when, after the burns, it would be sown with grass by the Government-
