LAYER'S INJURY.
LONDON, August 11. ' Layer's injury is not so serious as was feared. Of the five test matches the Australians have won two and England one, while t the other two have been drawn. In the first' trial of strength England won by 10 wickets, scoring 121 and 105 for no wickets, while the Australians were disposed of for 74- and 151. In the second test, however, the tables were turned, the colonials securing a victory by nine wickets, the scores ; "being — Australia, 350 and 41 for one wicket; England. 269 and 121. The third match also resulted in a win for Australia, the Englishmen being defeated by 126 rune. The winners compiled 168 and 207; while England ma do 182 and 87. The fourth teet was drawn, the scores being— Australia, 14-7 and 289 for nine wickets (innings declared closed) ; England, 119 and 108 for three wickets. In order to win England would have required to make 210 runs with the seven wicketa in hand
