P IRATES CLUB: PAST v. PRESENT
A very interesting game was played on Tahuna Park No. 2 on Saturday between teams representing the past players (blacks) and the present First Fifteen (reds) of the Pirates Club. The play throughout was fast and exciting, and at the same time punctuated by many humorous incidents which kept the spectators interested from start to finish. The form displayed by the .veterans came as a great surprise, and they proved that there is still a kick left in some of them. The Blacks' backs were a very even and reliable lot, but none played better than Hi3lop behind the scrum, who at times showed glimpses of the form that made him so popular with the public a few years foack. Wyinks, Cramond. and S. Njcolson tfoere also reliable, the fielding and linekicking of the two former being of great assistance to their side. Amongst the fortyards Burt stood alone and was the best forward on the ground. He was ably supported by Kirkcaldy, Thomson, and Jacobton. Of the Beds' backs Nicolson, War-
, wick, and Fairbairn were the best. Calder ' also played well, his kicking being very good. Of the forwards, Black, J. Scott, and Sibbald were prominent. Mr M'Farlane held the whistle and controlled the game admirably and with discretion. ! Pact Players -... - . ... 9 points. j Present Players ... 6 points.
