AERIAL LIGHTS.
. EXCITEMENT AT WAIHI. WAIHI, August 10. Last n'ght, between 7 and 9 o'clock, all the residents out of doors saw mysterious lights hovering in. the vicinity of the townbhip. At first two lights were visible, but later four were distinctly seen, travelling together. Their progress was clow, taking '20 minutes to travel about four miles. The incident is the talk of the town. SEEN AT OWAKA. . A gentleman who is a well-known resident of Dunedin has handed to Us the following letter from a friend in Owaka. The writer is well known io the gentleman addressed, and is one upon whom credibility and intelligence every reliance -can be placed. The letter, which speaks for itself, certainly relates a genuine experience. It may ' be added that he? is quali-. fied by his profession, being a sea captain, to give a reliable account of anything of the kind : — " I wish to tell you of a strange wght which six of us witnessed on Sunday evening last between 7 and 8 o'clock. Some three different people had stated they had seen the lights of the airship previous to this. Two flying machines passed over our house. There was a strong wind from the v|j3t, and these ships or machines were steering west-north-west, going about 16 to 20 miles an hour, one tcaveUinff a short distance behind the other. The last one seemed to be 300 ft or 400 ft above theforemost. We' saw them close enough to know they were no toy balloons or. witel fire. I had the field glass on, the upper, - one *for 20 minutes, and it certainly looked! as if it had strong electric lights on it, and I may state that I have never seen,' anything like these before. It was a fine£ clear, starry night, frosty, with &6 clouds to feide our view. If you wieh for more details I will give them to you. Am tending this as you used to take an in* tereat xr flying macjaines,/!
