WAIMATE, August 17. Wheat. — The market is very quiet, and there are practically no buyers, millers preferring to await developments lhan to stock further meantime. The small quantity in farmers' hands is shown by tho weak ton© in London, failing to bring forward anxious sellers The values today are nominally — Velvet, 4s s£d; Tuscan and red chaff, 4s 4d; on trucks country stations, sacks s£d. Oats. — The market is weak, and there Is little inquiry and practically no offerings. Values arc— Duns, Is *5d ; Danish, Is sd ; Gartens, Is 6<l ; on trucks countrystations, sacks s£d.

Potatoes. — The market for potatoes is firm, and extensive business is being done at £3 10a to £3 12s 6d, f.0.b., s.i.. for any prime lots of Up-to-Dates and Dcrwent'. •Large quantities are on offer, and if sellers do not rush their offerings prices wiU be maintained. " Seed lines ere in (demand, but owing to the potatoes beingr so badly ejected with blight buyers are pot operating' largely. Chaff.— The market for chaff still remains very quiet, and £3 15s to £3 17s 6d, f.0.b., s.i., are the best prices which are obtainable. Fair quantities are selling, principally for shipment to the coast. Straw— Baled wheaten, £1 6d ; baled oaten, £1 7s 6d; on trucks country stations.
