SOUTH TAIERI.
August 16. — The weather durng the past few weeks has been very fine, ami the-ra is everj indication of an early spring-. Ploughing is now we!J advanced, most of the farmers J&ing practically finished, and working up their ground preparatory to sowing. The rood*, which were in a very bad state fortruight ago, are now fast drying tip, and if the present dry weather continues they "will eoor be in good order again. The milk supply hys passed its lowest, and is now slowJy increasing-. A stage has aleo been erected, and the building is now quite suitable for tha purpose for which it re intended. On Fridlay evening last the committee invited a few of the residents of the district ta the school, which was ejpscially decorated by the school mistress (Miss M'Leod) fou, *he occasion. Dianeing war -bh« principal feature of the evening's amusement, music ibeinj, supplied by Mr J. AKen /r»iano), J. MehaJski (accordion), J. B. Reid (violin), and A, P. Fleming (violin). Sdngs wero contributed by Mrs J. B. Reid, Messrs Smith, J.Allen^ and- J. MehaJski. The duties of M.C. were entrusted to Mr W. Fl&tt, who was the right man in the rigiht place. During- the evening refreshments were handed round, the eatables being supplied by the ladies of the district, and the evening was brought to. a close at an earl.^ hour by the singing of "Auld lang syne." The secretary of the school committee (M* Frank Campbell) informed me that hi 3 committee has decided to hold a concerff and dance in the school in aid "of ih» school funds on Friday, Septemiber 3-.
