August 16.— The weather- lately has beeD broken, and the heaviest fall of snow we have had tihis winte-' fell on the 7th insfc. It did not lie long, however, the ground being too wet, and although we had a couple of siharp frost it vanished v? a day or two. Heavy winds have been prevalent during the last few days, with slif>ht showers intermixed, but the ground is dryinc tip considerably. General Matters. — A good deal of repairing of old bridges and building of visr ones haa been c!on<3 in this district lately. This was bedly needed, as some of the old bridges were unfit for traffic. Rabbit-trap-.ping has commenced again after the- frosts, and some good catches are still being get, but the prices are- still low, with not much, prospect of a rise, bo r t is not very encouraging for the trapper I think those who skinned their ra.bbits thss season instead of giving them to ibs factory bare dona b«sst. Dance-— The bachelors of Opio and Avondale held their annual ball on Friday night in Mr Bissett's woolshed. The night wae rather rough, and consequently there was not a greet number present. Songe were given during the evening by Messrs Hogan. Cleveland, end Lloyd. Music was supplied by Mr H. Styles, and Mr Beattie, of Nightcans, acted as M.C. The dance was Kept going until 3 o'clock, and all wended their way homewards* having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
