THE WAIHI REVIVAL. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT .)
AUCKLAND, August 13. There has been an increased interest in" the Waihi field of late, as a result ofwhich several claims have been taken up again. A southern syndicate has the Glad* stone and Waihi East claims to the south--ease of the Waihi. The Romulus and ad* jacent areas of the north of the Consoli- _ dated are held under option by Mr GArnold, acting for English investors, who are forming a syndicate at Home to provide the necessary canitdi for preliminary . •boring- operations. The intention is ta • form a strong company later if results jus-> ' tify such procedure. Walker's gigantic and Central groups are also being exploited at Home, whilst several other areas have been rej»e<rged and applied for, and are likely to be worked before Jong. It. may be hoped that this spirit of revival will lead to a proper fostering of the industry, and that in each case vigorous enterprise in legitimate development {work may eventuate. The day has gone by when, a policy of " pottering about " in shallow levels is expedient. At Waihi the whole aim of future raining propositions should be to "go down."
