IMPROVED FARM SETTLEMENTS.
CONDITIONS LIBERALISED. WELLINGTON, August 16. The Hon. D. Buddo, Acting Minister of Lands, informed a New Zealand Times representative to-day that the whole of the 400 sections to be opened up in connection with the improved farm settlement scheme are now ready for application. There are 100 in Wellington, 120 in Taranaki, and 180 in Auckland province. Regulations governing the leases will be made more liberal than 1 previously. No rent will be required for j 18 months after the usual period, so that persons taking up the sections will thus j have at least 21 months' grace before being called upon to pay rent. Residence will lie insisted upon, and no lease will be granted till after the first rent is paid, thus preventing transfers. As a matter of fact the regulations provide that even 1 after the lease i& issued no transfer will be granted where profit is shown on the transaction. " I have had many informal applications," the Minister remarked, " from "the country, and a con-" I siderable number from residents in the I city of Wellington. These must all apply to the Crown Lands Commissioners of the districts in which the eections they desire are situated."
