After-effects of Influenza.
After a severe epidemic of influenza or any season of prolonged cold, in which ' eatarrhal ailments have been exceptionally severe and prevalent, there is, unfortu- ' nately, a very great probability that there will be a marked increase in the number of cases of consumption occurring in the following year, a^ compared with the a\er- ■ ' age. Influenza and bionchial catarrhs, with their accompanying pneumonia and pleurisy, leave in many persons a weakness <-f the chest, which is liable to end in consumption if tho- greatest care is not taken ' of the general health during and rmmech'atelv after oonvakscence. Especially is this the case with tho?e who are constitutionally predisposed to this di-ease, or who come of a -^ioiJc which has in previous generations shown i;»elf prone to consumption — indeed, it is remarkable what a number of consumptive people are able to trace ( the beginning of their tiouble to an attack t of influenza come "light pleurisy, or a neglected cold on the chest, contracted during a severe winter. i
