So we turned to fcbe yellow plwna, And in glee we worshipped Him. Our "anthem was the cry Of the mad, uaifetterred gale. While our prayers were wafted foitm "With the sombre forest's wail. Thus for deeds we've done. Thus for 9ongs we've sung. Thus for sins we've sinned, And an^uisfh. tto-ily wrung From flesh and mind and soull W© laugh at our disgrace, We trust our dreams anew, And glory in the race, And. somahow thro' the din Of a world fain to condemn^ We reach to touch something-* It is His garment's hem. Broken in the toils, Paled by the battle-dust:! Lovers tbat loved in vaiir, Toilers who mocked rest and rusf. In face of a deed well dSone, Or a blow that was struck full hard. Who should ameer our claim? Who call us ill-starred? One star alone was ours, 1 i-"C ilaare<i o'er "fcb*© £rails we fcro^:" This we knew: we walked in joy. The great highways of God — - —rjj, yon KLaulbac*.
