By Peter Pak.
: August 6. Dear Pasquin, — Pollards finish their two weeks' season to-morrow" night with "'Tho Gay Hussar." Tho weather has not been a-t. all kind- to, this clever combination; neverfchel-ess, business has been good, and last night, despite a thunderstorm between 7 and 8 o'clock, theTe was a large audience to witness " Bluebell in Fairyland." A/fter the performance to-morrow evening the company leaves for Christchurch, opening there on Monday. j "Tommy" Burns shows at 1 the Opera House on Monday and' Tuesday evening. He is due- on Monday afternoon by the Main Trunk zxpress. Mr Will Jameson, of Auckland, is conducting the preliminary busine-s, and will pilot the ex-champicn pugilist through the Dominion. Mr Leo die Chateau, who, I informed you last week, intends forming ar elocution and dramatic school Here, has teen engaged by the Mountebank Dramatic Club to put the finishing" touches to the rehearsals of the comedy "Jan<j," which the club stages for three nights at the Opera House > noxt week. The principal parts will be taken by Misses Marshall, Evensen, Npjinestad, Quirk, and Messrs Isaccs, Rhind, Lampen, Porter, and de Chateau. Mr James Farrell is in town forwarding matters it. comneetion with the opening on next Saturday of Mi6S Nellie Stewart in " Sweet Kitty Bollairs." According to the bill of the play, "Sweet Nell of Old Drury" will by revived, and we will be afforded the opportunity of seeing Miss Stewart as Rosalind in "Aa You Like It." A truly attractive liat. Mr George Buller and Allan Hamilton's Dramatic Company passed through this city to Christchurch this week, where they play during Grand National week. After the eeaeon in the Cathedral City they cross over to the West Coast. MV Buller reports that business in the north of this island fulfilled expectations. John Fuller, jun., informs me that brother Ben is at present in Lonctan, arranging 1 for the flotation of a company with a capital of £60,000, of whioh the Fuller Firm will retain a sixth share, for the erection of huge skating rinks in the four big cities of this Dominion. The idea is to ■ use the rinks for ekating in the winter, picture halls in the summer, and probably let them for mission halls on Sundays I An all-em-bracing idea. Cable news was received from Australia this week by Mr John Fuller of the death of Will Stevens, " the sad-eyed shriek," who was before the public for a great many years as a vaudeville performer.
