DRATUGHTS MATCHES.

RIVERSDALE v. GORE. A -team of sixteen players from the Riversdale Draughts Club visited Gore recently for the purpose of trying conclusions acrofs the board with the Go*e Club. The match commenced in the local club room, Holland's Buildings, at 8.30, and was not concluded until after 11 o'clock. Mr J. Gardiner captained the local players, and Mt J. Stevenson skippered the players from the Waimca Plains. The following are the detailed scores: —

On the conclusion of the match the Gore Club entertained the players and supporters of the game at a supper at the Criterion Hotel. Som? 40 ger.'tlemen accepted the invitation, and a pleasant hour was spent. Mr G. Penny (prseident of the Gore Club) occupied the chair, and after refreshments had been partaken of, proposed the toast of " The Riversdale Draughts Club," which. was responded io by Mr J. Stevenson, who said that although beaten they were not disgraced, seeing that the team of 16 men had in lome cases travelled 25 niiles. That in it=elf was en accomplishment. The defeat was only one of four games, and in the next match his team would try to recover their laurels. Other toasts honoured were. "The Gore Draughts Club" and "The Chairman." Mr P. C. Gray said it was evident the strength of the two clubs waa about equal. The Gore Club looked upon the matches with Riverrdale as the chief fixtures of the yee.r. That probably was on account of Ihe members of the teams coming in contact with each other more than with other clubs. If a, team were picked from the two ckibs they, would hold their own agjin s t Tnvercarpi'l, and pet ?. task for a Duuedui team to put them down.
